If there is one item of clothing that works really well with pretty much any style of ankle boot, it is a pair of skinny jeans. Although ankle boots were originally popular in the 1980’s, there has been a big resurgence in sales recently, and it that is due in large part to the fact that they look so good with skinny jeans. It’s like they were made for each other!
One of the nice things about ankle boots of course is that they can be worn all year round, with so many different outfits. But it is when the days and nights start getting colder as autumn and winter draw in that ankle boots and skinny jeans really come into their own, especially when worn with a wool or cashmere sweater. It’s a great look, as well as being nice and warm!
There has definitely been a big growth in the public’s appetite for ankle boots over the last couple of years. As sales have rocketed, the number of styles available has also rapidly expanded, so you can now find a pair to match any outfit, which means you should have no trouble finding something to go with you favorite skinny jeans.
So why has there been such a resurgence in the ankle boot since skinny jeans came along? Maybe its because of the fact that previously, boots were generally worn underneath the trousers, so you didn’t get to see them so much. Now however, the trend is to wear the boots over the jeans, so they are on display much more. Which means there has been an explosion in the number of styles, colors, materials and designs available. Make the most of it!
All the designers are now jumping on the ankle boot bandwagon. Some of the best designs are coming from the likes of Michael Antonio, Steve Madden, Yves Saint Laurent and Kurt Geiger. In fact, even Jimmy Choo and Manolo Blahnik are jumping in on the act (although any boots from these top designers will set you back a pretty penny or two!)
So lets take a look at what you can do in terms of your whole outfit. You’ve got yourself a good selection of ankle boots, you’ve got some designer-label skinny jeans, now you need to decide what to wear on top. Well, as mentioned previously, in the winter months a lovely soft cashmere jumper can go really well. Otherwise you could wear a big baggy t-shirt with a bold design and a few accessories like big bangles or a chunky necklace. A black leather jacket would really complement this look, especially if you are wearing black leather ankle boots. The key thing is to find balance. Ankle boots can look quite chunky around your feet when you wear skinny jeans, so it’s important to wear something bigger up top too, to balance things out.
